The M & M's are a group that meets once a week, under the instruction of Philipa McKie Gossett. Starting at 6 pm the group mounts and warms up, Philipa will take them though individual and group movements at walk, trot, canter. Then the group will work on their upcoming routine ranging from USDF quadrille tests to freestyle quadrill and drill tests. During the practise Philipa is not only teaching and correcting the movements but coaching each horse/rider to build a stronger partnership.
Working as a group not only gives a social setting for riders but also builds the confidence of both horse and rider. The rider has to sit up, look and ride, not only concentrating on themselves but the other riders in the group. In addition, the challenge of being part of a group performing intricate figures provides a very special exhilaration and enjoyment to the individual participant. Competing with a group helps the riders, new or seasoned relax as the full focus of the judged is removed, as the group is being judged on synchonunrity of the movements, spacing and alignment.
Your horse learn to stay in line at the various paces, as well as balance and rate themselves. They learn to pass other horses and to be passed without protest, to go at the speed their riders choose regardless of what the horses around them are doing, and to leave the group promptly on command.
